“On Monday, the Kabuki Dancers were in Opelousas unveiling a new program for Black History Month.

The group is known for traveling around Acadiana and educating children on various topics such as bullying and gun violence awareness through performance. At Opelousas Junior High and Grolee Elementary, they premiered their program “The Breakdown: A Lesson in Hip-Hop History.”

According to Kabuki Dancers, the program focuses on the history of Hip-Hop and the important figures that pioneered the culture. There was discussion, demonstrations, and a dance workshop where the audience were able to join in on the lesson.

The group is scheduled to perform at several other schools in Acadiana during the week. The tour is sponsored by the Acadiana Center for the Arts.”
